Sustainability in Public Space for Intermediary Cities Through Information and Communication Technologies

Resumen

Public spaces in cities favor the quality of urban life, stimulating social interaction, enhancing people's physical and psychological health, improving the appearance of the environment. It is established that public spaces are fundamental components as places of expression and identity, which contains the emotions and experiences originated from citizen community interaction, hence the importance for their consideration in intermediate cities of Latin America; urbanizations in Mexico have suffered from lack and inequality in terms of urban spaces, territorial planning, as well as low integration of public spaces, affecting the lives of the inhabitants.

In this context, the model of smart and sustainable cities was developed, as well as an instrument with a quantitative approach; to evaluate sustainability for the quality of life in public spaces of intermediary cities, considering the dimensions: social, environmental, economic, governmental and technological; in addition, information and communication technologies were used such as the open data of the Digital Map of Mexico, System for the Consultation of Census Information, OpenStreetMap, Google Maps, QGIS among others; to speed up the collection of documentary information in the analysis of public spaces, with the purpose of contributing to the urban management of intermediary cities.
