Small and medium-sized enterprises, supply chain and integration

Resumen

The impact that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have on countries, it`s relevant to identify the main factors that affect the performance required by SMEs in order to allow their integration into supply chains. Many of these companies have become the engine of development in both emerging and developed economies. However, they are often unable to survive in competitive economic environments such as those that exist at present owing to their basic organizational and structural problems. An exhaustive bibliographic review and the use of a qualitative methodology through the analysis of the various literary sources found as a consequence made it possible to discover that the main factors affect performance are: financial resources, human talent, competitiveness, technology and organizational culture. The results obtained show that there are deficiencies as regards both the internal and external management of these companies, thus making them a weak link for integration into the supply chain.
